Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is the favourite to be the next Liverpool manager following the news Jurgen Klopp will leave the club at the end of the season.
In an interview with the club’s website, Klopp revealed he will be stepping down from his duties as Liverpool manager following the conclusion of the current campaign, bringing down the curtain on nine trophy-laden years at Anfield.
bet365's Steve Freeth said: "The news that Jurgen Klopp will depart Anfield in the summer has shocked everyone with Reds fans left to reflect on their most successful era in a generation.
"Attentions now turn to who will take over, and there's a certain former Liverpool player going great guns at Bayer Leverkusen.
"Xabi Alonso is our strong favourite to take over from Jurgen Klopp, with Roberto De Zerbi second favourite.
"So far we've seen everybody being backed from Alonso to De Zerbi, with a bit of Steven Gerrard, Jose Mourinho and Ange Postecoglou in between."
Succeeding Brendan Rodgers in 2015, Klopp has won nearly every major trophy on offer during his stint with the Reds and restored the club among Europe’s elite.
Finishing runner-up in the Champions League in 2018, his side avenged their final heartbreak the following year to claim a sixth European Cup.
In 2020 he guided Liverpool to their first Premier League title and their first league trophy in 30 years, romping to success with a 99-point tally.
He completed a domestic double in 2022 as the Reds lifted the EFL Cup and FA Cup, adding to the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup that they had collected in 2019.
